Practising Business Rapport

Burgess Hill School for Girls hosted a networking dinner to give Sixth Form students the opportunity to practise their business rapport in preparation for their future careers.

Guests were invited from a wide range of professional backgrounds and included Lisa Fairbank, a film producer and BAFTA Nominee; Ian Williams, Head of Projects, Government Olympic Executive, London 2012; Nathan Stride, Managing Director of Stride Creative and Simon Irwin, Editor of Sussex Life.

The event involved welcoming drinks and a three course meal in the Dining Room.

The after dinner speaker was Deanna Stark, Manager for Online Commerce at IBM UK and Ireland. Deanna illustrated the premise that every person is linked by less than six connections by explaining how she is ‘connected’ to U.S. President Barak Obama. Deanna encouraged the students to make the most of opportunities to build their own networks.

Through the generosity of those attending and Barclays Bank who contributed £750 of ‘matched funding’, a total of £1,800 was raised for The Prince’s Trust, a charity which helps disadvantaged young people launch their own businesses through The Prince’s Trust Enterprise Programme.
