March 2011
The Prince's Trust Alumni launch
The Alumni launch event held at Park
Square East was attended by almost 60 people, including 30
ex-secondees and some of their employers
The
Prince's Trust has enjoyed the support of seconded staff on
programmes in our offices for many years with over 5000 people
having been released by employers during the last decade, including
Employed Participants, Team Leaders and Liaison Officers.
The Alumni allows people to stay involved in
the Trust – volunteer, advise or act as a champion within their own
organisation and is being developed by Jacqui Hall, seconded from
HMRC, and already has over 100 members.
Benefits of the Alumni
The purpose of
the Alumni is to continuously improve the secondee experience by
harnessing expertise, good practice and ideas for future
placements. It is also a way for The Trust to keep in touch with
people who go on to be senior/influential leaders in their service
or sector. The Alumni is therefore a long term investment.
The Alumni has already helped The Trust in the
following ways:
- Past secondees and Employed Participants
have acted as champions for new placements
- The Retired Police Project, which supplies
new volunteers to The Trust, was instigated by a past Home Office
secondee
- Gift in kind support ranging from Team
room accommodation and auction prizes to programme sessions and
advice
- Providing case studies for publicity and
promotional material
- Currently, ex-civil service national
secondees meet three times a year offering valuable information to
The Trust on public policy developments and sharing best practice
across government departments
The
launch
The intention was to raise awareness of the
Alumni to internal staff as well as to the employers who release
people to us. Martina Milburn opened the event and thanked
the employers for their continued support of The
Trust and for HMRC for assisting in the Alumni.
Peter Lister then introduced three
ex-secondees to tell their stories, Jackie Westlake Civil Service,
John Rea Met Police and Sophie Williams MOD. After which there was
time to network with Alumni members and staff from The Prince’s
Trust.
