Schools and Colleges
A residential with Pembrokeshire Adventure
Centre will be a week full of firsts. First time away from home?
First time in a boat? First time you try spaghetti bolognaise? All
of them are important in their own way and as a centre we aim to
ensure that everyone has a story to go back with.
Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre was purpose-built in 1998 with
school residential trips in mind. Our waterfront centre, situated
on the beautiful Cleddau waterway, looks out over the Pembrokeshire
National Park, providing a stunning location for many of our
adventurous activities.
Thanks to the
positioning of our centre in Pembrokeshire, we have easy access to
some of the most beautifully scenic locations in the country,
including white sandy beaches, rugged sea cliffs, sheltered wooded
valleys and inland waterways. As a National Park, this
amazing landscape and its associated wildlife are very well
protected, whilst still being accessible via the 180-mile-long
coastal path.
At Pembroke Adventure Centre we specialize in working with young
people: we have a huge amount of experience and are committed to
supporting young people on their journey to adulthood. We are the
only adventure centre in the country that is run by The Prince’s
Trust; as a result, all of the profit generated at the centre is
used to help and support young people into training and employment.
We have also developed a close working relationship with the local
County Council and the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park,
co-running several local youth development projects.
The aim of
our residential school programs is to promote the development of
general life skills and individual confidence levels. Learning
through experience and fun, young people develop and strengthen
friendships. They also develop a sense of ownership and
responsibility for their actions.
Our adventure sports residential program has proven to be a very
powerful tool with regards to personal and life skill development
for young people. Our adventure activities are highly effective in
enhancing learning outcomes and developing individual life skills,
including:
- Communication skills
- Self-confidence
- Interactive skills
- Awareness of action and reaction,
- Planning
- Compassion and understanding
- Team work
- Listening skills
- Friendship
- Self-discovery
Activities
Due to the
nature of our location and the facilities we have on site, many of
our programs are run purely at the centre, meaning no time is spent
being transported from location to location.
Other activities offer the option to get out and about and
really appreciate the beauty of the surrounding area. The choice is
yours. Please click here for more
information on individual activities.
At Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre we work closely with our
visiting schools to ensure that aspirations and expectations are
met. The only way we can achieve this is to develop a good open
working relationship with each school. All of our courses are
designed around your requirements: during the booking process we
will discuss the details of what you are looking to get out of your
visit to the centre. Your program will be constructed and staffed
with this in mind. Prices can be provided once we have established
the nature of your program. We do offer free places to group
leaders accompanying the group, usually at the rate of one free
space per ten young people.
All of
our current visiting schools return to the centre year after year,
with their recommendations bringing more new visitors each year. It
is testimony to our success in this field that we are now being
asked to take bookings two years in advance. We are looking to make
some more weeks in the year available to visiting schools, so
please do get in touch to book your space.
We operate on a ratio of one to eight for most of our
activities, so we encourage groups of this size.
Staff and qualifications
Here at the centre, we take great pride in our staff. We are all enthusiastic,
friendly professionals and enjoy meeting new people, helping to
maximize the quality of your visit to the area.
At
Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre we take safety and customer care very
seriously. All of our guides and instructors are highly experienced
and qualified in their specialist fields, and are trained to
deliver our products to the highest standard. Our staff are all
qualified first aiders; we have first aid kits positioned around
the centre, and all of our instructors carry first aid provision
while out on session. We also run certificated first aid courses at
the centre. If you are interested in first aid, emergency response
or life saver training, get in touch.
All of our documentation is available to group organisers
including copies of our insurance, risk assessments, acceditation
certificates and operation proceedures. We also welcome group
leaders and organisers to come and see the centre for themselves.
We understand that this is not always possible, but if you can
please do. Otherwise, if you have any queries or require any
further information please do get in
touch. We are here to help in any way we can.
Practicalities and facilities
Getting to Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre is easy, with good
road access all the way to the centre, and we have ample turning
and parking space for large coaches. Both the nearest train station
and the ferry terminal for Ireland are only ten minutes away; we
will happily transport you to and from the station.
At the
centre we have four houses on site, providing accommodation
for up to 80. We also have a two- bedroom cottage on site that
can be used by visiting group leaders if required.
Alongside our restaurant, which overlooks the river, we also
have a souvenir shop offering a good selection of wares ideal as
presents or as mementos of the visit to the Adventure Centre. A
tuck shop is available, at the group leader's discretion. Please
click here for more on our
facilities.
We also provide a service were schools can pre-order customized
Adventure Centre T-shirts with your own school logo and dates of
the visit printed.
Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre provides all of the specialist
equipment required for your visit to the centre. We do have a kit
list of things to bring with you to make your visit comfortable,
such as adequate footwear, clothing, towels, sun-screen etc. We can
send this list out to you on request.
Although everything you need is included in the
price, little extras like tuck shop, ice creams and souvenirs
are sold separately. The amount of money young people should bring
with them is at the group leader's discretion, depending on the
group you are brining to the centre.
