How xl clubs work
With the emphasis on youth-led learning, this
is a programme designed and led by the young people themselves. It
is a flexible programme that can be delivered in any setting where
there are young people who need it.
- Young people may struggle with maths and English; exhibit
distracting, disruptive or aggressive behaviour; feel alienated,
isolated or bullied; or simply just won't engage in traditional
learning. If you work with young people like this, then The
Prince's Trust could help
- Young people join a small group of their peers from a variety
of backgrounds who face different issues. Where possible,
membership is fixed and young people benefit from a stable and
trusting environment, which helps them regain an appetite for
learning.
- Prince's Trust xl clubs can work both in schools and
outside the mainstream centres such as Pupil Referral Units (PRU),
schools for young people with severe emotional and/or behavioural
difficulties (EBD), Pupil Support Units (PSU)/Secure Centres,
Community Youth Centres, Young Offender Institutions (YOI), Youth
Offending Teams (YOT) and FE Colleges
- The programme is traditionally run in schools as a two year
programme over five terms, but can be delivered in a year in PRUs
or even a term in centres such as YOIs where the programme can be
offered full-time. Schools and centres are able to determine the
amount of time spent on the programme, dependant on the specifics
of their setting
- The Prince’s Trust is approved as a nationally recognised
awarding organisation, developing and offering QCF qualifications
and units. Prince’s Trust xl clubs work towards an Award or
Certificate sized qualification in Personal Development and Team
Work. More information about our qualifications can be found on the
Prince’s Trust Qualifications web-pages
- With 35 years' experience, The Prince's Trust has established
itself as a positive choice for young people who may have rejected
other interventions
For more information on how we could tailor the programme to
work in your school or centre, please contact your regional or
country office from the list on the right.
