How does it work?
Past awards have included helping young people to gain computing
skills, purchase tools critical for their job and produce a
portfolio to present at interviews.
The following are not eligible:
- Formal or informal groups or organisations
- Gap year or overseas projects
- Medical treatment
- Course fees that are far above the £500 funding limit
- Costs associated with NVQ Level 4, HNC, HND, degree or
post-grad courses or courses of an equivalent level.
How does it help?
Participants can:
- Receive a cash award to help undertake education or training or
enhance their ability to gain employment
- A Prince’s Trust volunteer will also support the young person
in setting goals, making decisions and finding other programmes or
support.
Who is eligible?
UK residents aged 14 – 25 who:
- Are part of The Trust’s four target groups
- Have education, training or work-related goals
Awards can take up to 6 weeks to process so applications should
be made well before the award is needed.
Key facts
Over 10,000 young people have received a Development Award to
date.
Recent internal and external evaluationsof the programme found
that:
- 82% of award recipients are now in employment, education or
training
- 94% of award recipients said the award had satisfied their
goals.
- 84% of award recipients felt the award had, or would have, a
long term impact on their life.
