Blades' stars Get Started with Football

Young people on Get Started with Football at Sheffield United FC were able to wish the team all the best for Saturday's game when Matt Lowton and Harry Maguire popped in to see them.

Matt and Harry answered questions from young people on the Get Started with Football course, signed autographs and posed for photographs.

Earlier in the week, The Prince’s Trust group had received praise from local schools following their involvement as volunteers in the Football League’s U13s Girls Cup, held at the Academy. The group helped organise and officiate the local round of tournament as part of the hours for their certificate in sport leadership.

The 15 young people were part of The Prince’s Trust Get Started with Football programme taking place at United under the guidance of Education Officer, Chris Bailey.

Chris said: “This has been a great opportunity for us to support young people and encourage them to follow their aspiration.”

The week of activities included football, training with the RAF and a session with the Star Snooker Academy which is based at the Blades facility at Shirecliffe. The programme also offered workshops about conflict resolution, employability and future opportunities.

All of the participants have developed their self-confidence, skills and abilities in teamwork and communication, which has led to future employment opportunities and further study.

More than three in four young people on Prince’s Trust courses move into work, training or education.

A celebration event was hosted at Bramall Lane and attended by family members as well as representatives from The Prince’s Trust and Sheffield United FC.
