Secretary of State for Wales visits xl club
A team of young people from the Extended
Opportunities centre in Cardiff met Cheryl Gillan at a local
climbing centre.
On December 6th 2011, the Secretary of State for
Wales Cheryl Gillan visited The Prince’s Trust xl club from the
Extended Opportunities Programme in Cardiff.
The Extended Opportunities Programme is part of Cardiff’s 14-19
network. The programme provides the pupils from a range of schools
throughout Cardiff with the opportunity to gain qualifications in a
broad range of predominantly vocational subjects. Qualifications
offered through the curriculum include The Prince’s Trust
qualification Developing Group And Teamwork skills.
The young people were taking part in a climbing session at
Boullders indoor climbing centre in the city working on their group
and team work skills.
The Secretary of state chatted to the them and was clearly
impressed with their bravery and climbing skills. She commented
that
I was very impressed to see firsthand the
inspirational and excellent work of the Princes Trust.
Rick Libby, Director of The Prince’s Trust Wales wrote to the
young people after the event saying
The young people were a credit to The Trust and
their willingness and enthusiasm for the xl programme shone
through. Their comments highlighted the contribution The Prince’s
Trust makes to help young people get their lives
working.
