Jason Hewison
Jason, 15, from Newcastle, was referred to The
Prince's Trust Fairbridge programme whilst dealing with personal
problems and struggling to find his identity. His
engagement with school has now improved, along with
his confidence and self-belief.
Jason was referred to the Fairbridge programme
in February 2011, which gives disadvantaged young people the skills
and confidence they need to change their lives for the better.
Prior to joining the programme, Jason was dealing with personal
problems and was struggling to find his identity.
From the outset Jason was inspired by the
guidance and opportunities available. His self esteem and
confidence grew massively thanks to the one to one support he
received, which also helped him to manage his feelings. He was able
to make new friends, which he believes has helped him develop his
communication skills.
With his new found self belief he conquered
his fears by abseiling, canoeing and coasteering. He is now
engaging more in school work and plays an active part at his local
youth centre. His confidence is sky high and says that he is a
different person.
He became a Prince's Trust Young Ambassador in
June 2011 and talks about his experiences at Fairbridge to help
inspire other young people. He hopes to pursue a career in
acting.
The Fairbridge programme gave me the self
belief to push myself and achieve much more than I thought I could.
I am improving at school and working hard in all areas of my
life,
he says.
