Andrew Dolan
Andrew, 23, from Newcastle, had
qualifications, but lacked the necessary experience to get work,
until The Prince's Trust Team programme opened up opportunites. He
is now in full-time paid employment.
Andrew applied for hundreds of jobs, but
the constant stream of rejections became demoralising and
frustrating leaving him with no confidence. It left him at an
all time low.
Unemployed for more than six months, he
decided to take a positive step and applied to go on The Prince's
Trust Team programme after seeing an advert on the internet. The
Team programme is a 12-week personal development course which gives
unemployed young people the skills and confidence to find work.
The course opened his eyes and made him
realise that he wanted to help other disadvantaged young people. He
was an active member of the group and completed a couple
of work placements at The Prince’s Trust regional office in
Gateshead.
Andrew’s positive attitude and new skill set
helped him get an interview at the Probation Service. His
application proved to be successful and he is now in full-time paid
employment as a Probation Service Officer. Andrew now helps manage
offenders who have a wide range of needs, including drug and
alcohol dependency and housing needs. He believes if it wasn’t for
The Prince's Trust he would still be unemployed and not sure what
he was going to do next.
The Prince’s Trust helped me develop skills,
get work experience and create a life I never thought I'd have. I
couldn’t have got to where I am today without their help,
he says.
